- Production:
- Publications indicate 160 Coronet 440s were produced with this drivetrain in 1966.
- History:
- This is a sold car (meaning customer ordered) built on Wednesday January 19th, 1966 at the St. Louis assembly plant and was delivered to a dealership in Newton NC, north of Charlotte. It was driven approximately 50,000 miles in that area until it was re-sold and taken to Florida where it saw another estimated 2000 miles. At some point during the Florida stay, it ended up in a salvage yard but the owner of the yard recognized the rarity of the car and had it stored so that it would not be dismembered. Sometime around 1988 the car moved to Crawfordsville, IN where it sat for another 10 years until I bought it.
- Other than the drivetrain, one of the more noteworthy things about the car is the painted roof. This was not a popular choice of paint scheme so, coupled with the rarity of the car itself, it has to be just one of a handful of hemi cars with this paint.
- Additionally the car has the inner fender data tag, and I have the original broadcast sheet. All body numbers match. NADA shows the mid-price for this car at $112,000. Since the restoration was completed approximately 4 years ago, I have driven the car around 4000 miles with virtually no issues. It does have a few nicks and a couple small paint bubbles and just general wear from use so I dont have it priced like a museum piece. Im looking for $97K. If you are in the market for an all-original, practically new, hemi 4-speed car that you could actually drive anywhere, this is it. With a little bit of work and detailing and with its unusual coloring, it would command top dollar for its type.
